“The Narnian: The Life and Imagination of C.S. Lewis” by Alan Jacobs

A C.S. Lewis Scholar recommended this book to me. I liked the cover of Lewis juxtaposed with Aslan, the Lion. I didn’t realize that Alan Jacobs, the author of The Narnian: The Life and Imagination of C.S. Lewis, was a professor of English at Wheaton College in Illinois while writing this excellent book until I finished Lewis’ biography.

This book fascinated and informed me about the life of C.S. Lewis. I appreciated learning more about his private relationship with Mrs. Moore and how, for decades, he cared for her. His faithful duty and kindness toward Minto, Warnie, Joy, and his friends endeared me to Lewis even more.

I loved how Jacobs weaved an intuitive thread throughout the narrative, uncovering Lewis’s sensitivity, pain, loneliness, debate, and dedication toward classical literature and his writings.

If you enjoy C.S. Lewis and learning more about him and his Faith, you may enjoy Mere Christianity and Surprised by Joy—plus another recommendation by the C.S. Lewis Scholar of The Weight and Glory.
