I met Robin Lee Hatcher during an online meeting and wanted to read something she wrote. I searched Amazon for Christian historical fiction, loved the cover, and selected Hatcher’s When Love Blooms. Usually, if I don’t care about the characters in the first chapter, I will read another chapter or two, then move on to another book. Hatcher caught my attention by the end of chapter one, so I kept reading.
I love historical fiction, and I particularly enjoyed learning about the landscape of Idaho, especially the corners and nooks of the mountain valley, and how they compared to the mountains of Montana and Washington state. The spark between Emily Harris and Gavin Blake rang true.
At first, I found Gavin’s wife’s (Dru) motivation for bringing Emily and Gavin together too kind and self-sacrificing to be believable. In time, I came to appreciate Dru’s love for her daughters and found her Christian sacrifice and sweet disposition refreshing. Through the eyes of Dru and Emily, I experienced what it must have felt like for the two girls, Sabrina and Petula, to be raised and transformed by such loving parents. If you like historical romance and memorable characters, this might be the book for you.
If you enjoy The Lady’s Mine by Francine Rivers and Under A Desert Sky by DiAnn Mills, I think you will like When Love Blooms by Robin Lee Hatcher.
