I met Lynnette Bonner during an online meeting and was impressed by her infectious smile and marketing expertise. That first impression made me want to read something she wrote. From the opening pages, Bonner captured my attention by introducing the plight of Mercy and her son, drawing me into their journey and circumstances.

At first, I had mixed feelings about the two brothers, Micah and Gideon. Over time, however, I came to sympathize with them, as their pasts unfolded. Past the midpoint of the novel, I rooted for one brother over the other and knew that he would be the best choice as a husband for Mercy. The spark between Mercy and her final selection rang true, near the end of the novel.

I loved the black-and-white illustrations of a covered wagon and horses woven throughout the narrative, especially as they marked a gentle pause between scenes. The cover design drew me into the story by featuring an image of a young woman embarking on a treacherous journey across Oregon in 1853.

If you enjoy historical romance and memorable characters, Through Dust & Ashes by Lynnette Bonner may be the book for you. If you like The Lady’s Mine by Francine Rivers, Under A Desert Sky by DiAnn Mills, and When Love Blooms by Robin Lee Hatcher, I think you will appreciate Through Dust & Ashes by Lynnette Bonner.
