I am a fan of Lynn Austin. Not only do I appreciate her character-driven novels, but I also enjoy learning more about history through a historical fiction lens and imagining myself in the story. My latest Austin read, All My Secrets, A Gilded Age Novel by Lynn Austin, did not disappoint.
I rarely invest myself in more than one or two characters in a novel, but Austin’s characters—Adelaide, Junietta, and Sylvia—intrigued me and held equal importance throughout the narration. Each faced moral decisions, challenges, and consequences. If they chose to stay true to their calling from God and to themselves, they would impact the lives of those closest to them. From chapter to chapter, I was unsure how each character would end up by the story’s close.
If you enjoy historical fiction, you might like Chasing Shadows by Lynn Austin and her equally touching novel, If I Were You. Other exciting books include David Baldacci’s Strangers In Time, John Boyne’s All the Broken Places: A Novel, Corrie Ten Boom’s The Hiding Place, and Sarah Sundin’s The Sea Before Us: A Christian Historical Romance of the World War II Navy (Sunrise at Normandy).
